CEDAR HEDGE TRIMMING

The ideal time of year for trimming cedar hedges is between April and late October. Cedars can be trimmed from the beginning of May to the end of September without causing any serious damage. Our team can advise you.

Cedars do not need to be watered regularly. They can easily tolerate a week without rain. When necessary, we recommend that you water until the roots are wet. It is best to avoid light, less frequent waterings. 

It is preferable to prune cedars narrower at the top and wider at the bottom for better exposure to the sun and to prevent snow from accumulating on the top of the hedge. A square shape is not recommended. Contact us for more information.

It is highly recommended that you have your hedge trimmed at least once a year. This results in denser, fuller cedars. Having your hedge trimmed allows sunlight to reach the inner branches, and helps cedars develop a nice colour. 

Cedar hedges do not really need protection during the winter. It would be far more harmful for your cedars to be exposed to the use of abrasive products such as salt. For locations that are very open to the elements, it is preferable to use a rigid fence. Breathable landscaping fabric is also a good option to prevent them from being burnt by the cold.
